Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) & Does Ketamine Prevent Post-Op Delirium?

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Describe the roles of the members of the health care team in their respective responsibilities for quality care.
2. Engage in discussion on up to date literature, recent articles evaluated:  1. Volatile anesthesia vs. TIVA for cardiac surgery. 2. Intraoperative Ketamine for prevention of postop delirium in older adults.
3. Describe the limitations of "Volatile Anesthetics versus Total Intravenous Anesthesia for Cardiac Surgery" and how some of those limitations are inevitable when studyin TIVA vs. volatile for anesthesia maintenance.
4. Better critique the design of studies' protocols and methods of analyzing statistics. Focus will be on the difference between intention-to-treat versus as treated analysis and the implications of choosing either method.
5. Engage in a discussion of translating results of these studies into clinical practice. What did you learn that will impact your daily practice? Will it change anything you do?
