Triage, Treatment, and Discharge: Care of the Hospitalized Patient with COVID-19

This training will focus on triage, treatment, and discharge when caring for a hospitalized patient with COVID-19. 

This presentation will NOT address the care of the patient with COVID-19 that requires ICU support with Mechanical Ventilation and/or ECMO.

Dr. Benjamin J. Freda,  DO and Dr. Lauren Westafer DO, MPH, MS were both involved in Baystate Health's response to COVID-19. They worked on the clinical guidelines, protocols, and review of the literature. Dr. Freda is a hospitalist, and Dr. Westafer is an ER doctor. 

A research grant for this COPD Learning Collaborative Champion Training was provided by the Department of Health and Human Services-National Institute of Health (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute).

Target Audience

This training is for respiratory therapist, physicians, and nurses.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe the triage and assessment of disease severity in patients presenting to the hospital with COVID-19.

2. Identify the inpatient process of care regarding medical treatments and respiratory support for COVID-19 patients. 

3. Discuss the discharge plan and documentation principles of COVID hospitalization.
