Updates in the Management of Hospitalized Patients with COPD Part 1

This presentation will focus on describing the classification of the severity of COPD exacerbation, the pathophysiology of exacerbation and risk factors, and the main pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

In the first part of the presentation, Dr. Victor Pinto Plata will present the current classification of the COPD exacerbations and management in accordance with the severity of exacerbation. He will discuss the role of systemic inflammation on the lung mechanics during the COPD exacerbation and the impact on future exacerbations, quality of life, and survival. In the second part of the presentation, Dr. Lindenauer will present the recent data on the role of beta-blockers and of pulmonary rehabilitation on the outcomes of patients hospitalized with COPD as well as how trainings for improving inhalers techniques can affect the outcomes.
