This training will focus on COPD best practices, noninvasive ventilation (NIV) use for COPD patients, and interprofessional training for clinicians treating COPD patients. The NIV training will cover patient selection, monitoring, and weaning to reduce NIV failure and improve patient outcomes. Interprofessional training will provide skills to create and strengthen teamwork when treating COPD patients. Case studies will reinforce the best practices for COPD, proper delivery of NIV, and provide a practice of interprofessional teamwork skills.

This training will focus on triage, treatment, and discharge when caring for a hospitalized patient with COVID-19. This presentation will NOT address the care of the patient with COVID-19 that requires ICU support with Mechanical Ventilation and/or ECMO.Dr. Benjamin J. Freda,  DO and Dr. Lauren Westafer DO, MPH, MS were both involved in Baystate Health's response to COVID-19. They worked on the clinical guidelines, protocols, and review of the literature. Dr. Freda is a hospitalist, and Dr. Westafer is an ER doctor.

This presentation will focus on understanding patient perception of noninvasive ventilation (behind the mask) based on interviews with patients and prior literature. It will also outline possible strategies to improve tolerance with noninvasive ventilation.

This training module will review the latest version of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines specifically addressing the diagnosis and management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Dr. Mary Jo Farmer will review the diagnosis and management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease according to the latest GOLD guidelines.  The definition of COPD, ABCD grading system algorithm, and treatment strategies, including inhalers, steroids, pulmonary rehabilitation programs, and non-invasive ventilation will be discussed.
