2025 Emergency Department RN Competency Day Session
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1| Perform the setting up, programming, and documentation of a PCA and Epidural infusion.
2| Name the intended utilization and rationale for the various respiratory methods and resources.
3| Administer peritoneal dialysis to a simulated peritoneal cavity.
4| Verbalize and demonstrate the access, de-access, and maintenance of a port-a-cath site.
5| Interpret the reference for the maintenance and care of a central line.
6| Review and Document in a MAR a heparin drip rate change and modify the order per protocol, demonstrate ordering PTT when appropriate.
7| Review how to utilize a gait belt and overbed ceiling lifts and discuss proper ambulation of patients prior to them being seen by Physical Therapy.
8 | Perform the application, assessment, removal, and documentation of restraints.
9 | Review infection control policies in relation to patient care.
10 Perform a mock code situation to validate cardiac resuscitation response.
11| Demonstrate cervical collar application, assessment and removal.
12| Review the care of a septic patient and proper procedures to follow.
13| Review the falls risk policy and how to properly identify a falls risk patient.
14| Verbalize the stroke protocol and the floor nurses’ responsibility during a Stroke Alert.
15 |Demonstrate set up procedure for the fluid warmer.
