This two hour course will summarize the symptoms and diagnostic process of pediatric patients with diabetes types 1 and 2. The talk will highlight the endocrine system function in relation to diabetes and the role of nutrition in this population. It will highlight important clinical information for the MA and RN roles in ambulatory practice caring for pediatric patients with diabetes. There will be an emphasis on the different technologies used in diabetes treatment.
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Identify the symptoms of diabetes
2. Identify basic fundamentals to diabetes care
3. Examine nutrition essentials in type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes
4. Identify different technologies used in the care of pediatric diabetes
5. Identify potential high risk adverse events
