This two hour course will summarize adolescent eating disorder types, how to identify them in clinic and how we provide assessment and treatment for this population. It will review best practice recommendations for care delivery for the multidisciplinary team including the MA. It will emphasize the nutritional components of the disease and highlight important clinical information for the MA role when working with this population.
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- Define the various types of eating disorders
- Describe the signs and symptoms of malnutrition
- Define the complications of malnutrition
- Summarize the importance of the medical assistant, nurse and physician roles in the eating disorder clinic
- Review the implications for hospitalization
- Summarize family-based treatment within the eating disorder clinic
