Objectives

1| Review the literature on the benefits of intermittent auscultation for appropriate individuals.
2| Recognize AWHONN-defined methods for assessing fetal heart rate via intermittent auscultation and contractions by palpation.
3| Illustrate uses of intermittent auscultation through case study and discussion.
