Description: This session will include panelists who are leaders/members from our own Baystate Medical Center Security Department as well as officers from police and/or correctional departments who are involved in helping to supervise patients in custody while they are inpatients in the hospital setting. The discussions will include what boundaries are and need to be set around these patients and what legalities we may encounter in their care. We'll discuss also biases and other emotional issues that may come up for treatment providers of all types as we care for these patients
 
Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

1| Discuss the unique medical management challenges in caring for patients in these situations.
2| Discuss the unique social and legal challenges in caring for patients in these situations.
3| Identify the special needs of these patients as they may confront bias, discrimination, and sometimes outright hostility directed against them. 
4| Discuss how to overcome potential provider bias, fear, anxiety and lapses in professionalism that may occur in the delivery of care to these patients.
