This two hour course will provide a general overview of seizures and epilepsy. It is deigned to help clinical MA’s identify seizure activity and first aid responses. The course will review the definition, diagnosis and treatment of seizures and epilepsy. MA’s will gain a better understanding of their role on a healthcare team in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic seizures and how they can better support families.   

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of seizures and epilepsy
  • Summarize how seizures are diagnosed
  • Summarize how seizures are treated
  • Demonstrate knowledge of seizure first aid
  • Summarize the role of the medical assistant in caring for children with seizures
  • Summarize the role of the nurse in caring for children with seizures
