Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1|Review the historical significance of the surgical stress response.
2|Describe how the body launches the stress response and the end organ effects.
3|Discuss the downstream metabolic and inflammatory cascades.
4|Review clinically relevant practices such as stress dose steroids and the use of etomidate.
5|Compare how our anesthetic choices can modulate the stress response.
