Objectives

1|Describe the historical evolution of axillary surgery in breast cancer, from routine axillary lymph node dissection to sentinel lymph node biopsy
2|Differentiate clinical and pathologic staging of the axilla and discuss their implications for treatment planning
3|Compare contemporary axillary management strategies for patients undergoing upfront surgery versus neoadjuvant systemic therapy
4|Identify patients who can safely omit axillary surgery
