This two hour course will summarize the symptoms and diagnostic process of pediatric patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The talk will highlight the gastrointestinal system function and the role of nutrition in this population. It will review important clinical information for the MA and RN roles in ambulatory practice caring for pediatric patients with IBS. There will be an emphasis on the different medical and functional treatments of the disease and how to support patients in all clinical roles.
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- Define irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Identify differential diagnoses
- Discuss therapies for IBS management
- Define FODMAP diet and limitations
- Discuss yoga as a complimentary therapy
