Efficacy of Ondansetron in Mitigating Spinal and General Anesthesia Induced Hypotension & Effects of Music Therapy on Perioperative Anxiety During Awake Anesthesia

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Describe the roles of the members of the health care team in their respective responsibilities for quality care.
2. Discuss spinal and general anesthesia physiologic effects.
3. Explore Bezold-Jarisch Reflex (BJR) and how it is activated.
4. Review the pharmacology of Ondansetron.
5. Evaluate current literature regarding effect of ondansetron in hypotension in attenuating hypotension in elderly population.
6. Discuss the effects of anxiety on patients undergoing surgical intervention, tools that measure anxiety, and benefit of music therapy on relieving anxiety.
7. Review the effects of music therapy on perioperative anxiety during awake anesthesia.
8. Discuss the need for further research based on type and specificity of music therapy utilized.
