The Department of Pathology and the Division of Healthcare Quality support the continuing education of our faculty, residents, nurses, advanced practice providers, students, staff and guests with the presentations provided at the Laboratory Utilization Management (LUM) Committee meetings. The purpose of the LUM Committee is to review current test ordering patterns, evaluate for best practice using national guidelines, plan, implement and measure change, vet new tests requests and provide education to maximize patient safety, quality, value and the patient experience. The LUM continually addresses that hazards of inappropriate lab testing and the potential patient harm it can cause. The Laboratory Utilization Management Committee presentations are an essential component of medical, nursing and general education, teach new information, enhance clinical reasoning skills and provide safe, effective, patient-centered timely and cost-effective care.

In support of improving patient care, Baystate Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
