Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
Gain the knowledge, and skills to provide Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using PrisMax technology with or without Regional Citrate Anticoagulation (RCA) to patients in the ICU setting.
1. Nurse will state the difference between continuous hemofiltration and continuous hemodialysis.
2. Nurse will differentiate between diffusion and convection and be able to state which molecules are cleared with each.
3. Nurse will verbalize what each of the settings on the PrisMax operational screen controls (PBP, BFR, PFR, Dialysate, and Replacement Fluid).
4. Nurse will return demonstrate initial set up of the PrisMax circuit in CVVHDF mode including set up of the auto effluent accessory.
5. Nurse will return demonstrate the steps to return the patient’s blood and place the system to recirculate saline.
6. Nurse will navigate the operational screen and demonstrate appropriate adjustment of the deaeration chamber.
7. Nurse will compare patient pressure graphs over time to identify trends indicative of clotting or clogging.
8. Nurse will assess pressure values and distinguish between clogging and clotting.
9. Nurse will identify alarms and follow the on-screen steps to resolve them.
10. Nurse will state the effect that citrate has on blood calcium, as well as the indication for RCA use with CRRT.
11. Nurse will state contraindications of RCA use.
12. Nurse will synthesize patient lab values in order to citrate and calcium infusions per protocol.
13. Nurse will express the risk of “citrate lock” and explain the steps to prevent and screen for it.
