Basic Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS): Cardiac Ultrasound/Focused Assessed Transthoracic Echo

Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

1|Describe how POCUS can positively impact perioperative clinical anesthesia care.
2|
Discuss barriers to perioperative POCUS implementation.
3|
List indications for POCUS ultrasound examination in the perioperative period.
4|
Describe the key features of ultrasound used to optimize 2D ultrasound views for POCUS examination of organs. 
5|
Discuss how the use of POCUS in the perioperative period can enhance patient care in terms of optimizing patient safety with the delivery of anesthesia.
6| 
Perform a basic POCUS ultrasound scan for the organ of interest, optimize the image acquired and identify the relevant anatomy for image assessment for that organ.
