Description
This Schwartz Rounds session will bring together experts in the fields of Neurology, Ethics and Palliative Care to discuss the challenges facing medical professionals and families and patients when a diagnosis is made of Brain Death.
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1| Identify the definitions and implications of a diagnosis of Brain Death
2| Recognize ethical considerations in making a diagnosis of Brain Death and in conveying to and discussing the diagnosis and prognosis with family members and caretakers
3| Discuss the emotional implications of a diagnosis of Brain Death not only to family members of the patient but to the staff taking care of such patients and the interpersonal and interprofessional conflicts that may arise in many cases
