Description
In this session of Schwartz Rounds, we will be exploring the increasing levels of violence towards employees that has been occurring across Baystate Health. The interprofessional panelists representing nursing, administrative leadership, and security will share their perspectives on workplace violence with a focus on compassionate care, patient and provider wellness, and collaborative teamwork. Topics to be discussed include: the impact of workplace violence on our employees, de-escalation training, and partnering with security officers to keep patients and staff safe. During this interactive session, audience members will be invited to share their experiences and perspectives.
Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1| Describe the increase in workplace violence in healthcare nationally and at Baystate Health
2| Discuss the impact of workplace violence on emergency room staff
3| Review resources at Baystate for de-escalation training and assistance during workplace violence events
4|Discuss methods for clinical staff and safety/security officers to collaborate effectively in the face of workplace threats to safety and well-being
