Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

1.  Summarize and recall the basic clinical presentations of both acquired and congenital syphilis (including a historical v/ modern perspective).
2.  Interpret national surveillance data describing the incidence and prevalence of acquired and congenital syphilis.
3.  Apply national screening and treatment guidelines in pregnancy and the neonatal period for prevention or treatment of congenital syphilis.
4.  Describe common missed opportunities for prevention of congenital syphilis, including interpreting the effects of race, ethnicity, geography, and the importance of syndemics.
