Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Identify factors involved in the most common childhood sleep problems (with emphasis on infants and preschool age children ages 0-5).
2. Identify different types of sleep onset disorders and sleep maintenance disorders related to the child's age (with emphasis on infants and preschool age children)
3. Describe the prevalence and clinical presentation of pediatric insomnia.
4. Describe management of sleep onset disorders and sleep maintenance disorders ( in infants and preschool age children).
5. Explain key principles of pediatric sleep for parental counseling at problem and well child visits.
6. Identify clinical presentations that warrant further diagnostic testing or referral to sleep specialist.
7. Review evidence for pharmacologic therapy of pediatric insomnia, including melatonin.
