Series Overview

The Emergency Response in the Hospital Setting (ERHS) series provides novice nurses with limited emergency response experience the education needed to apply best practice for responding to rapidly decompensating patients. Provides education about the signs and symptoms of decompensation as well as interventions prior to emergency response. Class will demonstrate proper process for Code Blue/RRT activation, CPR, and utilizing AED and preparing equipment for emergent intubation.

As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Recognize early signs of respiratory decompensation.
  2. Recognize early signs of cardiac decompensation.
  3. Demonstrate and build confidence in activating the code blue and RRT response team for situations in the hospital.
  4. Summarize their role during code blude and rapid response scenarios.
  5. Discuss and prioritize interventions for patients with a respiratory and/or cardiac decompensation.
