Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

Module 1 - Palliative Nursing Objectives 
1|Describe healthcare trends in America impacting the delivery of quality palliative care.
2|Describe the philosophy and principles of hospice and palliative care that can be integrated in the delivery of primary and specialty palliative care for individuals with serious illness.
3|Discuss aspects of assessing physiological, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social domains of quality of life for patients and families facing serious illness.
4|Describe the role of the nurse as an advocate for quality hospice and palliative care.

Module 4 - Ethics Objectives 
1|Discuss ethical issues and dilemmas that may arise in care of individuals with serious illness.
2|Describe specific roles of the nurse in ethical decision-making.
3|Describe advance care planning and its role in preventing ethical dilemmas.
4|Apply ethical principles utilized in addressing end-of-life/palliative care dilemmas, including models for case analysis and use of ethics committees.
