Series Overview

The Department of Radiology supports the continuing education of our faculty and residents though the presentation of Radiology Grand Rounds. Radiology Grand Rounds are held approximately monthly (except June-August). The purpose is to present clinical problems, updates on new and innovative developments in research and technology, and address other related clinical issues that our current and future providers face. Grand Rounds are an essential component of medical education, teaching new information, and enhancing clinical reasoning skills.

Intended Audience

Radiologists, radiology residents, and advanced practitioners.

Global Objectives:

The goal of the radiology grand rounds series is to host speakers with expertise across the many radiology subspecialties to improve competence and increase knowledge on radiology best practices. Most of our speakers come from large academic institutions and a fair number of them are authorities on the topics they lecture on.  In the ever-changing landscape of radiology where our technology and workflow are rapidly changing, these lectures can help our department better adapt to radiology’s future in terms of optimizing imaging protocols and increasing efficiency through workflow optimization.

In radiology, there is continuous refinement of its best practice guidelines and standardized reporting criteria as defined by the American College of Radiology. Inviting speakers who are part of committees making these national changes allows our department to engage with experts and to remain up to date with these new guidelines so they may be implemented into the care of our patients.

The breadth of radiology topics covered in grand rounds also maintains and strengthen the knowledge base of the radiologists within the practice, many of which are subspecialty trained but work across many disciplines inside radiology (i.e. mammography, neuroradiology, interventional/procedural, pediatrics, etc.).

Lastly, the importance of grand rounds to our resident’s education cannot be understated as it supplements out robust resident education curriculum often by giving concise and impactful overviews of many important topics in radiology and allow extra didactic sessions for residents which many of our speakers elect to do.
