Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Identify symptoms of early decompensation and treatment modalities in the patient with neurological compromise.
2. Relate functional cardiac anatomy and physiology to hemodynamic concepts and values.
3. Identify the most common cardiovascular diagnoses found in the intermediate care population and the treatments typically used.
4. Identify signs and symptoms of a variety of gastrointestinal emergencies and appropriate nursing interventions.
5. Translate an understanding of basic pharmacology concepts as well as the most frequently used medications in intermediate care.
6. Explain how the major categories of drugs found in intermediate care work and how to safely administer them.
7. Discuss care needs of the patient with respiratory distress.
8. Discuss care needs of the patient experiencing an endocrine emergency.
9. Explain care needs of a patient experiencing multisystem dysfunction related to sepsis.
10. Demonstrate understanding of critical concepts presented throughout the course.
