Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

  1. Define the cognitive behavioral elements of treatment for depression .
  2. Describe how to provide basic psychoeducation to patients with depression about the cognitive behavioral approach to treatment.
  3. Explain how to assess patients for adherence to medical therapy.
  4. Identify barriers to inadequate medical adherence.
  5. Apply evidence-based behavioral techniques to improve adherence to medical therapy.
  6. Describe how to engage patients to utilize self-management tools for behavioral activation, stress management, and problem solving.
