Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Discuss nursing assessment, care and management, when caring for a patient with TPN or PPN.
2. Identify appropriate routes of administration and line selection for TPN and PPN.
3. Discuss nursing interventions related to pain control, activity and diet for the post-op thoracic surgery patient.
4. Describe the nursing care and maintenance of chest tubes and drains.
5. Describe basic post-op management of the ortho-trauma patient, including pain control and positioning.
6. Identify appropriate steps for contacting ortho-trauma service when needed.
7. Discuss the nursing care and management of a variety of urinary catheters.
8. Describe proper irrigation techniques and practices.
