Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Describe the roles of the members of the health care team in their respective responsibilities for quality care.
2. Explain the history and evolution of esophageal surgery.
3. Describe the different surgical approaches to esophagectomy.
4. Explain what the specific anesthetic concerns are for esophagectomy.
5. Describe the new Enhanced Recovery Protocol for esophagectomy.
6. Explain the difference between a subcostal transversus abdominis plane nerve block versus a lateral transversus abdominis plane nerve block.
