Global Objectives:
The Schwartz Rounds series aims to support and advance compassionate health care in which caregivers, patients, and their families relate to one another in a way that provides hope to the patient, support to the caregivers, and sustenance to the healing process. This series will explore the challenges of delivering compassionate care to patients and their families while also taking care of ourselves, from the standpoints of the many different professional disciplines that are represented in the Schwartz Rounds audience. This course fosters these Baystate goals: Quality, Patient Experience, and Safety.
The Schwartz Rounds series endeavors to provide education for medical staff from a variety of backgrounds in the areas of compassionate care, which directly influences the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medical care delivered to patients. Risks are often identified earlier and avoided in many cases. This directly leads to better patient compliance with healthcare recommendations, more satisfied patients, and therefore less risk of self-directed discharges and less risk of overall litigation. Many of the sessions deal with ethical issues, quality of care, and nearly always on patient-provider communication and relationships.
