Goal:
The 44th Richard B. Brown Infectious Diseases Symposium will focus on updating the healthcare professionals about emerging infectious pathogens, updates in antimicrobial management, review of new pertinent infectious disease literature in the past year and STI updates. This aims to enhance the overall management of patients with complex health conditions and to keep providers up to date in an ever changing environment.

Target Audience
This course is designed for Physicians, Nurse practitioners, Physician Assistants, Pharmacists, Nurses, Microbiologists.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- Discuss publications from the last year related to infection outbreaks.
- Discuss publications about novel and potential treatments in infectious diseases.
- Discuss innovative and even peculiar publications in medicine over the last year.
- Discuss the background and epidemiology of H5N1 influenza.
- Describe the characteristics of the current H5N1 influenza outbreaks.
- Discuss diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for human cases of H5N1 influenza.
- Assess the evidence for the use of oral antibiotics in bacteremia and osteomyelitis.
- Compare short-course antibiotic treatment to traditional, lengthier courses.
- Design an appropriate antibiotic regimen to transition from acute care to outpatient care.
- Provide updates to epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment for bacterial, viral, and other STIs.
- Provide clinical resources (smartphone applications, STI Clinical Consultation Network, National STI Curriculum) to access expert guidance on STI management at the point of care.
- Discuss common questions and typical clinical scenarios that Infectious Diseases providers are asked about.
- Summarize the minimum information needed by the Infectious Disease provider in order to provide a timely and appropriate answer to the question.
- Discuss methods to optimize content, timing, and set expectations when asking questions or consulting Infectious Diseases.
