ForwardHRO Universal Skills - Hospital Medicine
High Reliability Organization (HRO) Provider Training is designed to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills needed to support a culture of safety and high reliability at Baystate Health. Participants will explore the principles of high reliability, the science of safety, and the factors that contribute to human error within complex healthcare systems. The course emphasizes Baystate's Universal Skills as practical strategies for preventing errors, improving communication, strengthening teamwork, and reducing patient harm. Through discussion and application of real-world clinical scenarios, learners will develop strategies to incorporate high reliability principles into daily practice and contribute to safer, more reliable patient care.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Explain the purpose of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles and their role in improving patient safety at Baystate.
- Describe the science of safety and high reliability, including common factors that contribute to human error.
- Recognize how errors occur within complex healthcare systems and identify opportunities to prevent harm.
- Describe Baystate's Universal Skills and their role in preventing errors, reducing harm, and improving team communication.
- Apply Baystate's Universal Skills to clinical scenarios to prevent errors, improve teamwork, and support a culture of safety.
