Target Audience
This course was designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, case managers, pharmacists, and dieticians that work with high-risk neonates.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
1. Recognize clinical findings and outline medical management of a newborn with suspected NEC.
2. Recognize the evolution of Medical into Surgical NEC and describe surgical treatments.
3. Define short bowel syndrome and describe associated nutritional management.
4. Identify the difference between palliative care, hospice, and bereavement.
5. Learn how to improve communication in difficult situations.
6. Learn how palliative care can help families and staff.
7. To elucidate the long-term sequelae of neonatal hypoglycemia.
8. To identify approaches to neonatal hypoglycemia management that improve outcomes.
9. Review types of cyanotic congenital heart disease.
10. Describe the presentation of cyanotic congenital heart disease.
11. Discuss the management and treatment of cyanotic congenital heart disease.
12. Discuss normal development of the fetal and neonatal brain.
13. Impact of brain injury on neurodevelopment.
