1st Annual One Mission Conference: Human Trafficking Awareness
Date & Location:
January 12, 2024
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel
One Monarch Place
Springfield, MA
413-781-1010
Goal:
The goal of this educational activity is to support safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, equitable and trauma-informed care. Individuals who have experienced Human Trafficking often go unidentified and/or professionals who encounter these individuals may not understand how to engage in survivor centered practices. Due to factors such as a lack of public awareness about the issue; the reluctance of many human trafficking survivors to identify themselves as experiencing trafficking; and extreme measures taken by exploiters to hide their crimes, many survivors go unidentified and are deprived of special care and intervention resources. Human Trafficking is a public health problem which has serious implications for the health and well-being of vulnerable individuals who come from all backgrounds, genders, nations, and economic levels. Children have additional vulnerabilities that make them more susceptible to the grooming tactics of human traffickers. Since 2021 the One Mission Coalition has identified 483 trafficked, exploited, or at-risk youth in Hampden County. Thus, the hope of this conference is to increase community awareness and provide professionals who encounter survivors the tools needed to support them at any point in their journey.
