Goal:
The goal of this educational activity is to identify ways to support individuals affected by traumatic grief.

Target Audience
This course is designed for law enforcement, mental health professionals, victim witness advocates, social workers, physicians, nurses, criminal and civil attorneys and community providers.
Learning Objectives
- Prepare to make a sensitive death notification with professionalism, dignity and compassion.
- Define and differentiate between loss, grief and traumatic grief.
- Identify clinical interventions that help young people address and integrate their experiences with traumatic loss.
- Discuss how to creatively use community resources to further promote healing to young people experiencing grief and traumatic loss.
- Recognize and understand the shift within a family structure as a result of traumatic loss.
- Discuss the impact of the media on victim/family survivors.
- Identify strategies for supporting family members impacted by media.
- Discuss and gain an understanding of compassion fatigue/vicarious trauma.
- Discuss the importance of self-care/cultivating resiliency.
- Discuss techniques to assist in emotional fitness
