Target Audience
This course is designed for nurses in emergency rooms, urgent care centers and primary care offices.
Learning Objectives
- Define workplace violence, the statistics, the perceptions and the impact of workplace violence on healthcare.
- Discuss the importance of prevent, respond and report in workplace violence.
- Demonstrate the utilization of a tool toengage all members of the healthcare team for sepsis compliance requirements.
- Recognize visual triggers for staff to initiate the 3 hour sepsis bundle,
- Discuss use of EMS pre-notification for receiving hospitals to expediate patient care.
- Define populations at risk for sexual exploitation.
- Recognize "Red Flags" for at risk patients.
- Discuss the "tell from victim to survivor" - the how, when and why she did what she did.
- Describe the difficulities in defining agitation.
- Develop better ways to manage behavioral patients in the emergency department.
- Explain the de-escalation process when dealing with aggressive/oppositional patients.
- Explain specific considerations with caring for transgender patients.
- Identify major disparities in healthcare for the transgender patient.
- Discuss strategies for health care institutions for creating a welcoming atmosphere for the transgender patient.
- Apply the techniques to stop junctional and limb hemorrhage.
- Describe the difference between packing and tourniquets.
- Explain the different types of bleeding.
- Define what a disaster is.
- Discuss how to plan and coordinate for disasters.
