Target Audience
This course is designed for anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists and post-anesthesia care unit nurses.
Goal
The goal of this educational activity is to support safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, equitable and compassionate care.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the changes in administration of neuraxial anesthesia with the use of heparin.
- Describe the changes in administration of neuraxial anesthesia with the use of low molecular weight heparin.
- Formulate a safe perioperative plan for obstetric anticoagulated patients.
- Describe types and indications of different regional techniques.
- Describe contraindications to regional techniques in pediatrics.
- Describe awake vs asleep blocks: advantages vs disadvantages.
- Describe safe and effective additives and their doses.
- Describe signs of local anesthesia toxicity and treatment.
- Describe neuroaxial anesthesia in pediatrics.
- Describe the anatomy and indications for a transversus abdominis plane block.
- Describe the anatomy and the indications for a rectus sheath block.
- Describe alternative regional anesthesia approaches for below knee amputees.
- Review history of nitrous oxide.
- Discuss updates on the safety of nitrous oxide.
- Discuss non-operating room use of nitrous oxide.
