Samuel Dresner Plotkin was a corporator and generous supporter of Baystate Medical Center. Through his experience with heart disease, Sam became convinced of the importance of a comprehensive cardiology program encompassing patient care, education and research that would benefit the Western Massachusetts community. His loving family has endowed in perpetuity, our annual program; thus, through this legacy we pay homage to his memory and achievements
Goal:
The 51st Annual Samuel D. Plotkin Symposium is a conference that demonstrates the importance of a comprehensive cardiology program encompassing patient care, education, and research that would benefit the Western Massachusetts community.

Target Audience
This course is designed for cardiologists, hospitalists, primary care physicians, physician assistants, emergency medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, cardiovascular technologists.
Learning Objectives
- Describe current indications for / advances in ECMO / ECPR.
- Describe management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
- Discuss advances in electrophysiology and pacing.
- Describe current management of acute pulmonary embolus.
- Provide an introduction to atrial fibrillation, ablation, and challenges of persistent atrial fibrillation, along with surgical hybrid procedures and outcomes associated with advanced therapies.
- Review advances in vascular therapies of the aorta.
- Discuss management of RV failure and tricuspid valve diseases.
- Provide a comprehensive overview of cardiac rehabilitation including preoperative rehabilitation, advances in hospital recovery / palliative comprehensive practices, and postoperative rehabilitation.
