Target Audience

This course is designed for nurses who care for patients undergoing procedures requiring sedation, analgesia and anesthesia.

Learning Objectives

  • Define risk factors for PTSD
  • Identify populations at risk for PTSD
  • Describe some non-pharmacological techniques to manage PTSD in the perioperative patient.
  • Identify new treatments in the management of the patient with PTSD.
  • Discuss how data transparency within an organization leads to staff engagement in ongoing clinical quality improvement.
  • Explain basic improvement concepts including PDSA, RCA, transparency and sustainment.
  • Explain the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process and be willing to participate in future RCA's without fear.
  • Recognize the basics of performance improvement methodologies and tools.
  • Describe information on the Child Development Stages that directly relate to hospital experiences.
  • Identify ideas to successfully guide children and their families through the admitting, induction and PACU process.
  • Review skills and interactions to help ready staff caring for the pediatric population.
  • Discover the benefits of international medicine.
  • Discuss the overview of volunteer medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital in Haiti.
  • Identify the needs of international medicine.
