Nursing Intermediate Care Core Course
This course is designed to prepare new nurses and nurses new to intermediate care, to provide competent, effective care to this population of patients and their families. Those areas include, the Intermediate Care Units SW5 (surgical/trauma), PCU (cardiac), D5A (Neuro), and D6B (respiratory). The course includes 8 lectures covering the major systems of the body with respect to normal states, diseases, treatment modalities and interventions. Several types of equipment used in intermediate care are displayed in a skills class to include demonstration and return demonstration learning. The course concludes with a variety of case studies/scenarios to help reinforce the education and develop critical thinking skills.

Target Audience
This conference is designed for new Nurses to the Intermediate Care areas.
Learning Objectives
The course is designed to provide the necessary education to competently care for the intermediate care patient. This is accomplished by building a foundation of knowledge, for the RN with minimal or no experience in caring for intermediate care patients, on which critical thinking skills can enhance the competency of care provided at the bedside.
