The goal of this educational activity is to provide up-to-date information regarding outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) and initiate collaborative efforts toward safe and effective OPAT to patients living in Western Massachusetts.

This course is designed for healthcare professionals including physicians, advanced practitioners, physician assistants, case managers, nurses, and pharmacists involved in the care of patients receiving outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT).

Learning Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:
- Review the risks and benefits of outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT)
- Review current guidelines and best practice in OPAT
- Discuss the case management of inpatients being considered for OPAT
- Discuss the approval process and insurance issues in patients going home with OPAT
- Discuss the role of visiting nurses (VNA)
- Discuss the role of home infusion company
- Review care of vascular catheter at home
- Review the medications used in OPAT
- Provide practical solutions to common problems and issues encountered in OPAT
- Provide examples of effective communication and coordination of care in patients on OPAT
