Goal:
The goal of this education activity is to provide an update on the diagnosis and management of common mental health issues presenting to clinicians in the primary care setting.

Target Audience
This course is designed for pediatric primary care providers (physican, nurses, nurse practitioners)
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss the risk and protective factors for suicidal behaviors in pediatric patients.
2. Explain relative suicide risk based on risk and protective factors.
3. Discuss how to diagnosis Autism Spectrum Disorder including comorbid psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents.
4. Describe the treatment options for Autism Spectrum Disorder including the appropriate use of medication management.
5. Describe the clinical presentation, DSM 5 diagnostic criteria, and differential diagnosis for youth presenting with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder and co-occurring conditions.
6. Discuss the evidence-based therapy and pharmacologic treatment approaches for children with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder and co-occurring conditions.
7. Describe the potential use and limitations of pharmacogenetic testing associated with prescribing psychiatric medications for children and adolescents.
8. Discuss why the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry currently recommends against the use of routine pharmacogenetic testing when prescribing psychiatric medications for children and adolescents.
