Rural Trauma Team Development Course - Grace Cottage Hospital

The rural trauma team development course has been designed to improve the quality of care in rural communities by developing a timely, organized, and systemic response to the care of the trauma patient. This course emphasizes a team approach to address common problems in the initial assessment and stabilization of the injured.

Target Audience

All staff who touch and take care of a traumatically injured patient in the resuscitation phase of treatment.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this educational activity, attendees should be able to:

  1. Develop and apply a rural trauma team structure with defined roles and responsibilities 
  2. Perform and prioritize trauma assessment and resuscitation interventions to rapidly identify and manage life-threatening injuries in collaboration with the healthcare team
  3. Initiate and coordinate early interfacility transfer processes to reduce delays in definitive care and improve patient throughput
  4. Demonstrate and adapt communication strategies within the interprofessional team 
  5. Implement and evaluate a performance improvement process using team-based data to measure, analyze, and improve trauma care outcomes
