Safer Smokes

The purpose of this program is to focus on harm reduction methods among patients in the ED that use stimulants such as crack and cocaine in addition to harm reduction measures that are already in place for those with opioid use disorder.
 

Method of Participation


This continuing medical education enduring material is in a video format.
 
To receive a maximum of 1.0 credit type you should:
 
  1. View the video in this enduring material.
  2. Complete the post-test.
  3. Complete and submit the CME evaluation form.
  4. Collect credit.
The estimated time to complete this activity, including review of the materials, is 1 hour.  
 

Target Audience

This course was designed for the Emergency Department staff including MDs, DOs, RNs, APPs, PAs and techs.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1.  Translate the meaning of harm reduction.
2.  Illustrate the need for broader harm reduction initiatives amongst patients who use drugs,
     including crack/cocaine.
3.  Summarize the national and local trends of deaths for those who use stimulants.
4.  Justify how the “war on drugs” was about control and power, not health.
5.  Outline how racism has contributed to inequities in medical care and access.
