Growing evidence indicates that traumatic experiences which occur in childhood are common and can have a lasting impact on health. At the same time, the care needs of children affected by trauma can be challenging and complex. The Trauma-Informed Care of Children and Adolescents Conference will feature regionally and nationally renowned speakers with expertise in the mental health and medical care of children impacted by trauma.
Goal:
Children and adolescents are struggling in this post-COVID era with behavioral health issues. Decades of research suggest that adverse childhood experiences are pervasive and have a lasting impact on health and quality of life. Additionally, these experiences and their impact may go unrecognized in routine primary medical care due to a number of factors. The goal of this educational activity is to provide conference attendees the latest best practices and approaches to effectively collaborate and communicate across disciplines to diagnose and treat children and adolescents impacted by trauma, including such topics as suicide prevention, trauma informed approaches to care, and pharmacologic treatment and issues related to trafficking.
Provided by:
Baystate Departments of Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Baystate Continuing Interprofessional Education.
