Goal:

The goal of this educational activity is to support safe, effective, patient-focused care for the patient with pulmonary disease.

Target Audience

This course is designed for primary care providers, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, respiratory therapists and case managers whose practice involves the care and treatment of pulmonary disease.  

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the Low Dose Lung Cancer Screening Program and the benefits of early screening.
  • Identify appropriate patient population for cancer screening program.
  • Accurately compare the utility of non-invasive ventilation modalities for the management of acute respiratory failure based on the ERS/ATS 2017 clinical practice guidelines.
  • Discuss evidence for non-invasive ventilation therapy and suggest guidelines for its use.
  • List the main complications associated with the most frequently utilized non-invasive modalities in the acute care setting.
  • Discuss drug therapy in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
  • Discuss role of percussive and other mechanical therapies in treatment of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
  • Discuss Medicare guidelines for qualification of supplemental oxygen.  
  • Identify purpose of 6 minute walk test.
  • Identify purpose of oxygen evaluation.
  • Discuss various testing methods for qualification of supplemental oxygen.
  • Discuss the types of Positive Airway Pressure Machines available to Medical Professionals to help their patients with OSA and other sleep related diagnosis.
  • Provide an understanding of what the Medicare/Insurance guidelines are with Positive Airway Pressure Machines to ensure expedient set up and patient satisfaction with all aspects of their treatment (financial & physical)
  • Discuss basic pathophysiology of asthma.
  • Discuss drug therapy in asthma.
