Noninvasive Respiratory Support for Patients with COVID-19 Infection

This training will focus on noninvasive respiratory support strategies including high flow nasal cannula, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or non-invasive ventilation for patients with acute respiratory failure due to COVID-19 pneumonia.

Dr. Dean Hess will present the current evidence for the use of noninvasive respiratory support for hypoxemic respiratory failure as well as predictors for Noninvasive respiratory support failure. He will discuss the risk of aerosol generation and strategies to maximize caregiver protection when using noninvasive ventilation. The evidence for the following tools HACOR scale, ROX Index, and a nomogram to determine failure or the need to consider intubation with NIV respiratory support for COVID-19 will be also discussed.

Target Audience

This training is for respiratory therapist, physicians, and nurses.

Learning Objectives
