The Department of Pathology and the Division of Healthcare Quality supports the continuing education of our faculty, residents, nurses, advanced practice providers, students, staff and guests with the presentation provided at the Laboratory Utilization Management (LUM) Committee Meetings.
The purpose of the LUM Committee is to review current test ordering patterns, evaluate for best practice using national guidelines, plan and implement, and measure change, vet new test requests and provide education to maximize patient safety, quality, value, and the patient experience. The LUM continually addresses that hazards of inappropriate lab testing and the potential patient harm it can cause.
The Laboratory Utilization Management Committee presentations are an essential component of medical, nursing and general education, and teach new information, enhance clinical resasoning skills and provide safe, effective, patient -centered, timely and cost-effective care.
